UNIT 3. This unit provides information and practical, accessible resources for best practice supports for youth and young adults with ASD in transition services and activities, including instruction. Given the diversity in this population, educational staff may not always feel adequately prepared to provide the necessary supports to youth with ASD.
In this phase of life they go through a lot of changes, their bodies frow rapidly and in the grip of hormones, and they are in the proces of becoming independent individuals. Growing fast always causes a temporary clumsiness. In order to maintain our balance literally as wel as fuguratively speaking, through all these changes, it is very impotant to have plenty of motor activities every day.
Then we interpret these messages and organize our purposeful responses. Sensory intake is happening constantly to each of us as we move through our daily endeavors and we respond accordingly. Each sense acts individually and in union with the others to send us information about our environments and our body in each environment.

I think currently the schools and the OT profession have circled the wagons around young children, focusing on early intervention. Early intervention is without question the best plan. By then, they have pretty strong ideas about things.
The theory behind it is that over time, the brain will adapt and allow kids to process and react to sensations more efficiently. Sensory integration SI therapy should be provided by a specially trained occupational therapist OT. The OT determines through a thorough evaluation whether your child would benefit from SI therapy. In traditional SI therapy, the OT exposes a child to sensory stimulation through repetitive activities.
